Adventures of Little Bird

One of the only things I’ve questioned about our plan is timing. Little Bird is still so young and is likely not going to remember any of the memories we are making. She will have the memories we capture in pictures or videos, but she is always going to rely on the stories we tell to remind her of this great adventure. I guess that is part of why I feel so inclined to write these blog posts.

Even though she may not be able to recall these adventures and memories, I hope we are teaching her more about living life than simply the things we will see and do. I have to trust and have faith that this adventure is leading us to great things in her childhood and beyond.

When I was pregnant, Will and I had many discussions about what we wanted to instill most in our child. We narrowed it down to one word: kindness. Yes, we want to share our faith with her. Yes, we want to instill a sense of adventure and love of nature. But what that all boils down to is kindness – kindness to herself, kindness to others, and kindness to the world around her.

We will capture moments in time to create memories for Little Bird, but more importantly, we will all be learning lessons that will serve us more broadly than the memories we will create over the next year. We hope to spark a flame within our sweet girl so that she lives her life boldly and kindly. We hope that in all we do, we continue in this year and beyond to nurture her as a person, nurture her faith, and nurture her sense of adventure.

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
